Draining Dishwasher Through Floor

Moving a dishwasher full of water can be messy.

The pipe it is connecting to is larger than the dishwasher drain pipe and the air inside the pipe will provide enough air for venting. Use cups or other containers to scoop out the water and transfer it to the sink drain. I will drill holes through the joists just under the floor to the sink. There is a hole drilled from the basement right below the dw so the water hose going in and the drain hose are through that opening the drain hose then is routed to a p trap nearby but it is indeed also accessed from just below the floor.

When the appliance man was here we let water fill the dw then we opened the dw and watched it drain out. The drain hose from your dishwasher empties into the garbage disposal drain. If you direct connect below the floor and the line becomes blocked most likely the sewage will back up into the dishwasher remind me if i ever visit not to eat or drink from your dishes. Pull the dishwasher drain line from the side of the garbage disposal and place it in the bucket.

Run your garbage disposal. My idea is to drill a hole in the floor and run it right under the floor. Protect the floor under and in front of the dishwasher with old towels. Dishwasher door gasket fault if water or soap suds escape past the dishwasher door and onto the floor the sealing gasket on the dishwasher door is most likely worn out and needs to be replaced.

If you loop the drain under the cabinet and strap it up high before going through the floor this will provide the trap needed. If this gasket gets ripped brittle or worn out water will overflow onto the floor. Use a couple of towels to soak up the last portion of the water. Make sure water at water line is fresh and if it s a floor sink clean it and run drain basket through dishwasher.

When the dishwasher door is closed the rubber seal going around the entire interior door is what seals the water inside. The venting is required to prevent air lock when draining. If pipe above water line has build up knock it off with a drain brush. The dishwasher is 30 inches high.

When i get there i will raise the line to the high loop to a level with the top of the dishwasher the down to the tap in the drain before the p trap.
